Get Paid to Care for Someone You Love in Maryland
Through select Maryland Medicaid programs, eligible individuals can choose a trusted family member or friend to provide care at home. This allows loved ones to remain in a familiar environment while receiving support from someone they know and trust.
Carewann supports families under the following programs:
Community First Choice (CFC)
Community Options Waiver (CO)
We guide you through eligibility, enrollment, caregiver approval, and ongoing support from start to finish.
Community First Choice (CFC)
CFC is a Medicaid entitlement program available to individuals with full Maryland Medicaid who meet medical eligibility requirements.
There is no waitlist for CFC if eligibility criteria are met. Services can begin once approval is granted.
CFC allows approved family members or friends to provide hands-on assistance with daily living activities at home.
Community Options Waiver (CO)
The Community Options Waiver supports individuals who meet nursing facility level-of-care criteria but wish to remain at home.
Unlike CFC, this program may include additional financial eligibility review and may involve a waitlist depending on program availability.
It provides structured home and community-based services designed to prevent unnecessary institutional placement.
Requirements
Who Can Be a Paid Caregiver?
To qualify as a family or friend caregiver:
Must be at least 18 years old
Must pass a background check
Must obtain CPR certification
Spouses and legal guardians are generally not eligible for payment under these programs.
